Role Purpose
The National Key Account Manager - Pharmacy (NKAM) leads strategic customer partnerships across key Pharmacy accounts to drive sustainable growth for Alcon’s Vision Care portfolio. The role is accountable for managing Pharmacy Banners -TerryWhite Chemmart, Pharmacy Choice, Healthsave and wholesalers – Symbion and CH2 and managing Alcon’s 3rd party Field Force. This is full-time 12-month maternity cover contract with imminent start for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Management
- Develop and execute comprehensive Customer Business Plans aligned with Alcon’s strategic priorities and customer specific objectives to deliver sales, share and profitability targets.
- Responsible for day to day running of channel portfolio (Symbion, TWC, PC, HS) leading the cycle of promotional submissions including costing, negotiations, execution and post promo analysis.
- Drive the business planning cycle with retailers through ongoing quarterly business reviews, category reviews and joint business planning to maximise range, distribution and NPD ranging.
- Strengthen long-term business partnerships to accelerate growth in dry eye and contact lens care categories across the pharmacy channel.
Commercial & Operational Execution
- Manage the relationship with Alcon’s 3rd part field force inclusive of contract negotiations, incentive planning and performance reporting.
- Develop and clearly communicate Pharmacy Cycle Plans, ensuring cross functional alignment and flawless execution by in‑field teams.
- Roll out national sales, promotional and training initiatives, coordinating with retailer head offices, Alcon’s field team and external partners for seamless execution.
- Provide accurate and timely monthly sales forecasts; actively participate in demand planning and customer order‑fulfilment processes.
- Track progress against customer plans, identifying incremental growth opportunities and ensuring timely risk‑mitigation actions.
Business Planning & Analytics
- Leverage customer, category, and market data to identify growth opportunities, and support strategic decision‑making.
- Monitor, optimize, and maximize trade spend & ROI to ensure financial objectives are achieved.
- Proactively identify competitive threats, customer experience issues, process gaps, and recommend timely, cost‑effective solutions
Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Partner with Marketing, Category, Professional Education, Supply Chain and Field Team to develop integrated strategies, proposals, and customer solutions.
- Present confidently to internal and external stakeholders, document proposals and insights succinctly and persuasively.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Commerce, Economics, Science or related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in National or Key Account Management, Business Development, or a similar commercial role within FMCG, Consumer Healthcare or Medical Devices.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate long‑ and short‑term customer needs into actionable plans aligned to Alcon’s priorities.
- Exceptional relationship‑building, negotiation, presentation and communication skills.
- Advanced analytical capability with the ability to interpret data and derive actionable insights.
- Strong project management, and influencing skills, including the ability to lead without direct authority.
- Ability to travel as required, including occasional evenings and weekends for customer or company events.
