Executive Director, Pricing Strategy, Analytics & Contracting

Job Description

Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. Every member of our Madrigal team is connected by our shared purpose: leading the fight against MASH.

Madrigal’s medication, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), is a once-daily, oral, liver-directed THR-β agonist designed to target key underlying causes of MASH. Rezdiffra is the first and only medication approved by both the FDA and European Commission for the treatment of MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2 to F3). An ongoing Phase 3 outcomes trial is evaluating Rezdiffra for the treatment of compensated MASH cirrhosis (F4c).

Our success is driven by our people. We are building a dynamic, inclusive, and high-performing culture that values scientific excellence, operational rigor, and collaboration. To support our continued growth, we are strengthening our workforce strategy to ensure we have the right talent, at the right time, in the right way.

The Executive Director, Pricing Strategy, Analytics & Contracting (Global Impact) is a critical leader within Global Market Access responsible for shaping and executing U.S. pricing and contracting strategy while proactively assessing global price dynamics that can influence U.S. net price and profitability. This role leads a small team and serves as a strategic partner across Finance, Forecasting, Business Operations, Legal/Compliance, Government Affairs and Market Access to drive disciplined deal analytics, ROI/profitability optimization, and pricing governance in a rapidly changing policy and competitive environment.

This leader combines forward-looking strategic insight (scenario planning for IRA and evolving reference pricing dynamics, competitive entrants, policy shifts) with hands-on operational leadership (customer deal analytics, contracting execution, GTN management, and government pricing oversight via vendor partners).

Key Responsibilities

Pricing Strategy, Policy, and Governance

  • Establish and evolve U.S. pricing strategy and pricing policy frameworks aligned with enterprise objectives and market access strategy.
  • Develop and maintain a pricing “playbook” and decision frameworks (price corridors, leverage points, governance) to standardize pricing and contracting decisions across channels.
  • Lead pricing governance forums (e.g., pricing committee) and ensure clear decision rights and escalation pathways for complex pricing decisions.
  • Ensure pricing recommendations align with applicable regulations, public policy guidance, and internal legal/compliance standards.

Deal Analytics, ROI, and Profitability Optimization

  • Lead analytical support for strategic customer deals, including ROI assessment, profitability modeling, scenario evaluation, and negotiation support.
  • Build and refine pricing and contracting models incorporating discounts/rebates, volume assumptions, channel dynamics, and competitive context to evaluate GTN and profitability impact.
  • Provide actionable insights to leadership on trade-offs and value optimization across payer segments and contract constructs.

Market & Policy Impact Assessment (US + Global Interdependencies)

  • Monitor and assess evolving policy and market dynamics impacting U.S. pricing and access, including IRA-related considerations and other reference pricing constructs (e.g., MFN/MRP), and implications of ex-U.S. price changes on U.S. price strategy.
  • Develop forward-looking scenarios for competitive entrants and access controls; quantify risk/opportunity and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Partner cross-functionally to translate policy and market shifts into pricing actions and risk management plans.

Contracting Operations & Performance Management

  • Oversee end-to-end contract lifecycle strategy and execution, including offer evaluation, financial modeling, negotiation support, execution, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Monitor payer/GPO/specialty/pharmacy and health system contract performance to optimize GTN and profitability by channel.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and vendors to ensure accurate implementation of pricing changes and operational processes (e.g., chargeback price updates, rebate workflows).

Gross-to-Net (GTN) Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for GTN analytics to support forecasting, budgeting, and monthly close activities.
  • Identify key drivers of GTN variance and recommend actions to minimize revenue leakage and improve performance across programs and channels.
  • Collaborate closely with Finance and Forecasting to ensure disciplined accrual methodology and clear communication of GTN impacts.

Government Pricing Oversight & Compliance (via Vendor Management)

  • Oversee vendor-managed government price calculations and reporting processes (e.g., AMP, BP, ASP and related requirements), including validation, review, and timely submissions.
  • Partner with Legal/Compliance to monitor legislative/regulatory changes and ensure governance processes remain current and audit-ready.
  • Ensure operational controls and documentation support compliance expectations.

People Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team; set clear goals, elevate capabilities, and foster strong accountability.
  • Serve as a highly collaborative partner across Finance, Forecasting, Business Operations, Legal/Compliance, and Market Access functions.
  • Communicate complex analyses clearly to senior stakeholders; influence decisions with data-driven narratives and recommendations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in U.S. pricing, contracting, market access, GTN, and/or related commercial analytics within pharmaceutical/biotech.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and developing talent.
  • Deep expertise in financial modeling, pricing/contract scenario analysis, and GTN drivers across channels.
  • Strong understanding of the evolving U.S. pricing and access environment, including policy-driven impacts (e.g., IRA considerations) and implications of broader reference pricing dynamics.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional workstreams, influence without authority, and drive decision-making in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with executive presence and strong business judgment.

Preferred

  • MBA or other advanced degree.
  • Experience assessing international pricing interdependencies and ex-U.S. impacts on U.S. pricing strategy.
  • Experience designing or evolving pricing governance frameworks and contracting authority structures.
